Around the clock

24/7 Emergency Electrician in Chicago

Electrical emergencies don't keep business hours. A burning smell behind a wall, a panel that's hot to the touch, sparking outlets, half your home suddenly dark, or a service line down after a storm. These are safety problems, and they need a licensed electrician now, not Monday.

Mr. Mighty Electric answers emergency calls around the clock, 7 days a week. When you call, you reach a real person who can dispatch a licensed Chicago electrician to make your property safe, fast.

What happens when you call

  1. 1

    We answer.

Nights, weekends, and holidays, your call reaches someone who can help, not an endless voicemail.

  2. 2

    We respond fast.

We dispatch a licensed electrician to diagnose and make safe as quickly as possible.

  3. 3

We price it before we start.

Even in an emergency, you get an upfront price and approve it before work begins. No blank checks.

  4. 4

We make it safe, then plan the repair.

Every emergency call is handled by a licensed, insured electrician, so the fast fix is also the right fix. You get a clear plan for the permanent repair.

When something's wrong with your electrical system at 2 a.m., you don't want a sales pitch. You want a competent electrician who shows up, tells you the truth, and makes it safe. We work in Chicago's older homes and busy commercial buildings every day, so we've seen the failure your building is throwing at you before, and we know how to stabilize it without making it worse.

Warning signs

Emergency Electrical Repairs: Warning Signs That Can't Wait

Some electrical problems can wait for a regular appointment. These can't. If you notice any of the warning signs below, stop using the affected circuit and call (773) 406-7500.

Smoke or a burning smell? Get everyone to safety and call 911 first, then call us to make the electrical system safe and repair it.

Sparking, smoke, or a burning smell

Sparks, smoke, or a smell like hot plastic near an outlet, switch, light fixture, or your panel usually means a wire is overheating or shorting out. Scorch marks on a cover plate mean it has already happened at least once.

What to do: If you can reach your panel safely, shut off the main breaker and leave it off until an electrician finds the cause.

Power loss, flickering, or dimming lights

If part or all of your home loses power while your neighbors still have it, the problem is on your side of the meter: a failed breaker, a loose connection, or damage to your electrical service. Lights that flicker or dim when the air conditioner, furnace, or microwave kicks on point to an overloaded circuit or a loose connection that heats up every time it carries a load.

What to do: A partial outage is not something to wait out. Call us.

A breaker that keeps tripping, or a hot or buzzing panel

A breaker that trips again right after you reset it, or won't reset at all, is stopping a short circuit or an overload. A panel that feels warm, buzzes, or smells hot can mean a failing breaker or a loose connection inside the panel, and both are fire risks. Our guide on why a circuit breaker keeps tripping covers the common causes, and when a breaker has failed, circuit breaker replacement is often part of the repair.

What to do: Don't keep flipping it back on.

Buzzing walls or warm switch plates

A buzzing or crackling sound from inside a wall, or a switch or outlet cover that feels warm, usually means a loose connection, a worn-out device, or old wiring that is arcing.

What to do: Stop using that switch or outlet and turn off its breaker.

Shocks from appliances, switches, or outlets

Even a mild tingle when you touch a metal appliance, a switch, or an outlet points to a grounding problem or a wiring fault, and these problems can get worse quickly. An open ground outlet is one common cause.

What to do: Unplug the appliance if you can do it safely and stop using that outlet.

Downed lines, exposed wires, or water near electrical equipment

Treat any downed line or exposed wire as live. If the line between the pole and your house is down, report it to ComEd. Damage on your side, such as a torn service mast, a pulled meter socket, or wiring that got wet from a flood or a leak, needs a licensed electrician before power can be safely restored.

What to do: Stay away from it and keep kids and pets back.

Marcelino and Daniel/Danny were amazing electricians to work with. They communicated everything clearly, from the beginning arrival time to each step of their process here. They kept me updated during their install and we had such a pleasant chat rather than a purely transactional experience. I would never choose another set of electricians to work with after this - if you get a request, ask for Marcelino and Danny you wont regret it.

Highly recommend Eddie and Mr Mighty Electric. Very fast to respond online to book an appointment, I had an initial visit from a technician within 5 days, and the work completed within 7 days. Eddie and Dan were highly professional, good at explaining what they were doing and why, and worked independently - will be using them again in the future.

Eddie Morales Jr was the electrician sent by Mr Mighty Electric. He is fantastic! Very capable and polite. Super honest as well. He identified the problem as minor and quickly fixed it. The day before another electrician had proposed major and expensive repairs to fix the same issue.

FAQ

Emergency Electrical Services FAQs

Still not sure what to do? Call (773) 406-7500.

What qualifies as an electrical emergency?

Sparking outlets, burning smells from wiring, a complete power outage in your home, exposed live wires, buzzing sounds from your electrical panel, or any situation where you feel unsafe. If you're unsure, call (773) 406-7500 and we'll help you assess the situation over the phone.

How fast can an emergency electrician get to my home in Chicago?

Mr. Mighty Electric typically responds to emergency calls within 45 minutes to one hour in the Chicago metro area. We're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Response times may vary during severe weather events.

How much does an emergency electrician cost in Chicago?

Emergency electrical service in Chicago typically ranges from $150 to $400 for the initial service call, depending on the time of day and complexity. After-hours and weekend calls may include a trip charge. Mr. Mighty Electric provides upfront pricing before starting any work, so there are no surprise bills.

Do you charge extra for nights, weekends, or holidays?

Some emergency calls outside normal business hours may include an additional trip charge. However, our hourly rates remain competitive. We always provide a clear estimate before beginning work so you can make an informed decision, even at 2 AM.

Should I turn off my breaker panel during an electrical emergency?

If you can safely reach your breaker panel, turning off the main breaker is a good first step in most emergencies, especially if you smell burning, see sparks, or notice water near electrical components. If you can't safely access the panel, leave the house and call us immediately.

What should I do while I wait for the electrician?

Keep everyone away from the problem area and don't use the outlets, switches, or appliances on that circuit. Never touch exposed wires or try a DIY repair, even if the fix looks simple. If you can, note what happened right before the problem started, such as a storm, a new appliance, or a breaker that tripped, so the electrician can find the cause faster.

Can you repair an electrical panel at night?

Yes. Our emergency electricians carry the tools and parts needed for most panel repairs, including breaker replacements, loose connections, and tripped main breakers. For full panel replacements that require a permit and ComEd coordination, we'll make the area safe immediately and schedule the replacement for the next business day.
